A melting furnace is a device used to heat a solid substance to its melting point to achieve melting. Because of the extremely high temperatures involved in the melting process, melting furnaces require special refractory materials to withstand high temperatures and chemical attack. The following are the refractory materials used in common melting furnaces:
1. Refractory bricks: Refractory bricks are one of the most common refractory materials for melting furnaces, among which high alumina bricks and silica bricks are commonly used types. High alumina bricks have excellent high temperature resistance and acid and alkali corrosion resistance, and are suitable for melting furnaces of aluminum, copper, nickel and other metals. Silica bricks are more stable to high temperature oxidizing atmospheres and are suitable for melting furnaces in the glass and electronics industries.
2. Refractory castable: Refractory castable is a kind of refractory material that can be poured into the melting furnace by gravity or vibration to form a lining. They are composed of refractory particles, refractory powder and binder, and are usually made of high alumina castables, graphite castables, etc. Refractory castables have excellent high temperature resistance and chemical corrosion resistance, and are suitable for various types of melting furnaces.
3. Refractory ceramics: Refractory ceramics are a special type of ceramic material with good high temperature resistance and chemical stability. Alumina ceramics, silicon carbide ceramics and silicon nitride ceramics are widely used in high temperature melting furnaces. They remain stable at high temperatures and resist acid and alkali attack and thermal shock.
4. Graphite: Graphite is a refractory material with good high temperature resistance, and is widely used in melting furnaces in metal, glass and other industries. Graphite has a high melting point, low coefficient of thermal expansion, and excellent thermal conductivity, making it an ideal material for many high-temperature melting processes.
In short, factors such as working temperature, process requirements and material properties need to be considered when selecting refractory materials for melting furnaces. Different refractory materials have different characteristics and scope of application, and the most suitable refractory material can be selected according to the specific needs of the melting process.
