Refractory is an important basic material in the non-ferrous metallurgical industry, and is the main bearer of physical and chemical erosion and mechanical damage of high-temperature melts. It has strict requirements on refractoriness, thermal stability, slag erosion resistance, and size and structure of refractory bricks.

The damage of non-ferrous metal refractories is mainly caused by the erosion of slag with relatively complex composition, and it is also an important factor limiting the increase of non-ferrous metal smelting temperature, which seriously affects the development of non-ferrous metal enhanced smelting technology.

The refractories used in the non-ferrous metal industry mainly include magnesia-chromium refractories, silicon carbide refractories, bauxite corundum refractories and aluminum-silicon refractories. Among them, magnesia-chromium refractories are widely used in copper smelting, nickel smelting and lead smelting industries. Magnesium-chromium refractory has strong resistance to iron-silicon slag erosion and SO2 erosion, and also has good resistance to melt erosion. It is currently the most used refractory for the three metal smelting.
