The cupola is an important equipment for high-temperature iron smelting, and its lining needs to use special refractory materials to withstand high temperature, chemical corrosion and mechanical stress. The following are refractory bricks commonly used in cupola linings:
1. High alumina brick: High alumina brick is a kind of refractory brick made of high-purity alumina and kaolin as the main raw materials. It has excellent fire resistance, corrosion resistance and thermal shock resistance, and can withstand the high temperature environment in cupola furnaces. High alumina bricks are commonly used in the lower areas of the cupola lining, such as the waist, shaft and bottom of the furnace.
2. Silicate brick: Silicate brick is a refractory brick made of silicate clay sintered at high temperature. It has good compressive strength, high temperature resistance and erosion resistance, and is suitable for the central area of the cupola lining. Silicate bricks are often used in staves, furnace expansion areas and hearths.
3. Magnesia brick: magnesia brick is a refractory brick made of high-purity magnesia as the main component, which has excellent fire resistance and alkali corrosion resistance. In the high temperature area of the cupola, such as the furnace throat, furnace roof and slag mouth, magnesia bricks are usually used as refractory materials.
4. Carbon brick: Carbon brick is a refractory brick made of high-quality graphite particles pressed at high temperature. It has good thermal conductivity and high temperature resistance, and can be used in high temperature areas of cupola lining, such as furnace throat and furnace roof.
In addition to the commonly used refractory bricks above, other special types of refractory materials may also be used for the lining of cupolas, such as chrome bricks, carbon composite materials, etc. These refractory materials are selected according to their specific properties and applicable conditions to ensure the proper operation and durability of the cupola.
In cupola design, different regions have different requirements for refractory materials, so factors such as temperature, chemical composition, mechanical stress and corrosion should be considered comprehensively when selecting refractory bricks. In addition, the operating conditions and mode of operation of the cupola will also affect the selection and use of refractory materials.
