Solution

The iron and steel industry can be divided into steel-making industry and iron-making industry. For the requirements of different industries, the demand for refractory materials is also different.

1. Steel industry

The refractory materials used in the steelmaking industry include magnesium oxide or magnesium oxide-calcium oxide, chrome-magnesium, siliceous refractories, refractory clays, high alumina, and carbon.

It is mainly used in the lining of steelmaking furnaces and blast furnaces, the heat preservation and heat storage bricks of steelmaking hot blast furnaces, the linings of ladles for carrying and transporting metals and slag, the linings of furnaces for heating billets in the next process, and the heat conduction of hot gas. The flue and the inner lining of the blast furnace body are also widely used in the tapping trenches of medium and small blast furnaces.

The furnace type used in steelmaking is mainly a converter, and the main task is to smelt molten iron, scrap steel, etc. into steel with the chemical composition, and make it have certain physical and chemical properties and mechanical properties.

2. Iron industry

The refractories used in the ironmaking industry are mainly divided into refractories for sintering, blast furnaces, casting yards, ladle and their pretreatment. Refractories for blast furnaces and sintering machines belong to refractories for infrastructure. The ladle, the iron casting field and the pretreatment of the molten iron are consumable refractory materials. In the ironmaking system, the slag is characterized by neutral and acidic slag, and the slag is weak in oxidation. According to the selection rule of similar materials and inertness to corrosive medium, neutral refractory materials containing non-oxides should be selected. That is, this area should be made of aluminum-silicon-based refractory materials such as silicon carbide, silicon nitride, and carbon bricks.
