Heavy refractory bricks and lightweight refractory bricks are two common high-temperature refractory materials. Heavy refractory bricks and lightweight refractory bricks are in terms of composition, density, heat insulation performance, refractoriness, compressive strength, thermal inertia and application occasions. There are marked differences. In actual use, the appropriate refractory material should be selected according to the specific situation to ensure the safe operation of the equipment and prolong the service life. The following is a detailed introduction to the difference between heavy refractory bricks and light refractory bricks.

1. Different density: heavy refractory bricks have a higher density, generally above 2.5g/cm³, while lightweight refractory bricks have a lower density, generally between 1g/cm³ and 2.5g/cm³.

2. Heat insulation performance: due to the low density of lightweight refractory bricks, their heat insulation performance is better. Relatively speaking, heavy refractory bricks have high heat capacity and thermal conductivity, and are not as good as light-weight refractory bricks in terms of thermal insulation performance. Therefore, light-weight refractory bricks are usually more suitable than heavy-weight refractory bricks in occasions that require higher heat insulation.

3. Refractoriness: Since heavy refractory bricks are mainly made of high-purity inorganic materials such as alumina and silica, they have high temperature resistance and can withstand high temperature environments above 1700°C. Lightweight refractory bricks are made of clay, perlite, vermiculite and other materials, and their refractoriness is generally between 1350°C and 1500°C.

4. The composition is different: heavy refractory bricks are mainly composed of high-purity inorganic materials such as alumina and silica, and usually contain more alumina; while lightweight refractory bricks are usually made of natural minerals such as clay, perlite, vermiculite or Made of man-made materials.

5. Different compressive strength: heavy refractory bricks have higher compressive strength, generally above 50MPa; while light refractory bricks have lower compressive strength, generally between 10-20MPa.

6. Different thermal inertia: heavy refractory bricks have higher thermal inertia, that is, they deform less at high temperatures, while lightweight refractory bricks have lower thermal inertia and are prone to deformation.

7. Different application occasions: heavy refractory bricks are mainly used in equipment with high temperature, high pressure and high thermal inertia, such as steel converters, electric furnaces, cement kilns, etc.; lightweight refractory bricks are mainly used in lower temperatures and pressures, Such as hot blast stove, heating furnace, partition wall, insulation layer, etc.
