Magnesia carbon bricks (Mg-C bricks) and aluminum magnesia carbon bricks (Al-Mg-C bricks) are two types of refractory materials commonly used in steelmaking furnaces, but there are some differences between them:

1. Raw materials: The raw materials of Mg-C bricks are mainly magnesia and graphite, while Al-Mg-C bricks also contain a certain amount of aluminum oxide.

2. Carbon content: The carbon content of Mg-C bricks is generally between 10% and 25%, while the carbon content of Al-Mg-C bricks is usually lower than that of Mg-C bricks, typically around 6% to 8%.

3. Thermal shock resistance: Al-Mg-C bricks have better thermal shock resistance than Mg-C bricks due to the presence of aluminum oxide, which can help reduce the formation of low-melting-point phases during thermal cycling.

4. Oxidation resistance: Mg-C bricks have good oxidation resistance at high temperatures, while Al-Mg-C bricks can perform better under reducing or neutral atmospheres due to the reduction of aluminum oxide to metallic aluminum, which can form a protective layer on the surface of the bricks.

5. Application range: Mg-C bricks are suitable for use in the slag zone and tapping hole area of steelmaking furnaces, while Al-Mg-C bricks are more appropriate for use in the hot spot area of blast furnaces and other high-temperature industrial furnaces.

In summary, the main differences between Mg-C bricks and Al-Mg-C bricks lie in their raw materials, carbon content, thermal shock resistance, oxidation resistance, and application range. The choice of which type of brick to use should be based on the specific requirements of the furnace and the operating conditions.
