Corundum castables are called in a wide range. Generally speaking, only those with aluminum content greater than 90% can be called corundum castables. Corundum castables have high strength and high temperature resistance. And good chemical stability.
Corundum materials include white corundum materials, brown corundum materials, tabular corundum materials, composite corundum mullite materials, composite wear-resistant materials combining corundum and silicon carbide, and chrome corundum materials, but no matter what kind of corundum All materials must be made of micropowder technology plus binder.
Corundum castables have high bulk density and are mostly used in high temperature areas. But the porosity is high and the flexibility is not very good. In many cases, it is made of composite materials with other high-grade materials. Corundum material is a high-grade refractory material, but some user manufacturers just blindly require corundum material, but corundum material is not suitable for use in all parts, and the use of low-temperature linings increases the cost virtually, but does not play a corresponding role.
Now the castables used in the lining of hazardous waste incinerators are composite materials, because the components of hazardous waste are multiple, that is, alkaline and acidic. And there are too many impurities, and the erosion is too strong. If the temperature does not exceed 1000 degrees, the combination of corundum and mullite should be used. If the temperature exceeds 1200 degrees, chrome corundum should be used.
There are also many indicators of corundum castables. Some require high strength, while others require wear resistance and corrosion resistance. If the temperature is low, high-grade corundum materials are used to increase the cost. If corrosion resistance, corundum materials alone are not resistant to corrosion. . Therefore, what constitutes a real corundum castable can only be determined by the indicators.
Some composite corundum materials do not have very high aluminum content, but other indicators are high, and corundum powder or ultrafine powder must be added, so it is also called corundum castable. The material with more than 90% aluminum is corundum, and it cannot be regarded as the only index standard.
