Magnesia chrome brick is a commonly used refractory material, which is composed of magnesium oxide and chromium oxide. Pulverization refers to the phenomenon of granular fine powder appearing on the surface or inside of magnesia-chrome bricks. The following are several reasons that may cause the pulverization of magnesia-chrome bricks:
1. Effect of thermal cycle: Magnesia-chrome bricks are usually used in high-temperature environments and undergo a cycle of thermal expansion and contraction. This temperature change and thermal stress may cause microcracks inside the magnesia-chrome bricks, making the bricks gradually loose, and eventually lead to pulverization.
2. Chemical erosion: Some industrial production processes will produce acidic, alkaline or harmful gas environments. These chemical substances may react with magnesia-chrome bricks and erode their structure. Long-term chemical attack can destroy the integrity of the brick body and cause chalking.
3. Corrosion and oxidation: Magnesia-chrome bricks are susceptible to oxidation and corrosion in high-temperature environments. When exposed to a high temperature oxidizing atmosphere, magnesium oxide and chromium oxide react with oxygen in the atmosphere to form a surface oxide layer. These oxide layers may have peeling and pulverizing effects on the brick body.
4. Misuse or maintenance: Improper use or lack of proper maintenance may also lead to pulverization of magnesia-chrome bricks. For example, excessive temperature range, rapid temperature change, improper cooling method, etc. may cause damage to the brick body and accelerate the occurrence of pulverization.
5. Masonry quality problems: When installing magnesia-chrome bricks, if the masonry materials and methods are not correct, such as improper mortar ratio, improper treatment of brick joints, etc., this may lead to weak bonding between bricks, affect the stability and durability of bricks, and eventually lead to pulverization.
In order to reduce the risk of powdering of magnesia chrome bricks, the following measures can be taken:
Choose high-quality magnesia-chrome brick materials that meet the requirements;
Avoid sharp temperature changes and extreme temperature conditions during use;
Reduced chemical attack and oxidative environment;
Proper installation and maintenance according to the manufacturer's recommendations;
Regularly check the state of the brick body, and repair or replace damaged parts in time.
