The refractory castables of self-flowing castables are very different from the aggregate particles. The particles of the castable are round and approximately spherical, the largest particle is 5mm, and occasionally 8mm, so that the water absorption rate is small and it is easy to flow.
In the preparation process of self-flowing castables, unlike refractory castables, there are more matrix materials. The viscosity of the mixing material should be in a suspended state. The aggregates are not in contact with each other but are wrapped by the slurry. The aggregates flow together. The refractory castable does not contain so many materials, but its strength will be higher than that of the self-flowing material due to the large particles.
The amount of water added during the construction of the self-flowing material is relatively larger than that of the refractory castable, because the amount of water added will fill the dispersed ultrafine powder and improve the thixotropy, so that the free flow of the castable is increased. However, when the refractory castable is constructed, it is not possible to add a large amount of water. If the water is added too much, it is easy to produce particles in the west during molding, and the porosity will increase after drainage and baking, and the strength will also decrease.
The self-flowing material is used for repairing the parts where the lining of the kiln is thin or difficult to construct, while the refractory castable is used in a large area of the working layer, and the thickness of more than 100mm can ensure the periodicity of use.
Self-flowing castable is a new type of refractory castable. It is a representative castable in the new construction method. It can also be made into self-flowing castables of different materials and used in furnace linings with different atmospheres.
