Unshaped refractory materials refer to refractory materials without regular shapes, such as castables, spray coatings, mud materials, etc. In order to make these materials have certain strength and plasticity, certain binders need to be added. The following are several common binders for monolithic refractory materials:

1. Water glass: water glass is an inorganic gelling material, mainly composed of silicate and alkali metal oxides. It has the advantages of glue, water resistance, aging resistance, etc., and is widely used in various unshaped refractory materials, such as castables, hardeners, etc.

2. Phosphate: Phosphate is a commonly used inorganic gelling material, which can react with alumina, aluminum silicate and other refractory materials to form a hard colloid, which has good high temperature stability and corrosion resistance. Phosphates are commonly used in the preparation of high-temperature ceramics and related products.

3. Polycarboxylate: Polycarboxylate is a polymer organic gelling material, which can form a layer of stable colloid with the surface of refractory materials through dispersion, adsorption, covering, etc., so as to achieve the curing effect. Polycarboxylates are commonly used in the preparation of unshaped refractory materials such as spray coatings and slurry materials.

4. Asphalt: Asphalt is an organic binder, which has good cohesiveness and viscosity at high temperature, and can tightly bond amorphous refractory materials together. Asphalt is often used to prepare monolithic refractories in engineering fields such as waterproofing, anti-corrosion coatings, and thermal barrier coatings.

Unshaped refractories

In short, there are many types of binders for monolithic refractory materials, and it is very important to choose a suitable binder according to specific application needs. Common binders include inorganic gelling materials, polymer organic gelling materials and organic binders, etc., each of which has different characteristics and application ranges, and needs to be selected and applied according to actual conditions.
